Artificial Intelligence Experimentation Facility For the Energy sector
Vikas Singhvi – EPRI
The presentation outlines the vision, motivation, and technical approach of a Testing and Experimentation Facility (TEF) designed to support the safe, trustworthy, and scalable deployment of artificial intelligence in the energy sector. It begins by highlighting key challenges facing AI adoption by energy utilities, including regulatory pressure from the EU AI Act, high reliability and security requirements, limited access to realistic datasets, and fragmented, siloed AI development across utilities, researchers, and vendors. Because energy utilities are likely to be classified as high risk AI users, AI systems must meet stringent requirements for transparency, validation, and robustness before deployment.
